No More Mosquito Meat
Everyone in Jamaica who has ever been around foreigners knows that local mosquitoes love to attack foreigners.
I dont know why, but I have a new theory... foreigners taste better.
Up until recently, my wife and I would be in the same room, same bed pr same office and she would be stung while I would be ignored.
That is, until she had a 3 week bout of dengue fever last year, and all of a sudden the bites stopped. I take it to mean that somehow dengue changes the "taste" of blood in some way, rendering it unpalatable to our locals.
I have no idea if I am right, but there does seem to be a correlation. If so, perhaps there might be documented evidence to back this up? If there is, do let me know.

12. Permohonan perbelanjaan bagi rawatan kecemasan yang diperolehi di hospital/ klinik swasta adalah dilaksanakan mengikut tatacara berikut:
(i) mendapat rawatan di hospital/ klinik swasta yang paling hampir dengan tempat kejadian kecemasan kerana tiada hospital/ klinik Kerajaan yang lebih hampir dengan tempat kejadian kecemasan tersebut; dan
(ii) rawatan yang diperolehi merupakan rawatan yang diperlukan secara serta-merta dan tidak boleh dilengahkan bagi menyelamatkan nyawa pesakit (life-threatening); dan
(iii) perakuan keperluan kemudahan perubatan dan pengesahan oleh Pakar Perubatan hospital/ klinik swasta mengenai perkara di perenggan (ii) di atas; dan
(iv) permohonan dikemukakan menggunakan Borang Perubatan 2/09 seperti di Lampiran A; dan(v) permohonan diluluskan oleh Ketua Jabatan."
Kalau kita lihat statement di atas, memang orang kerajaan boleh dapatkan rawatan di hospital swasta....tapi, perlu penuhi syarat2 seperti dalam pekeliling terlebih dahulu...
Jadi, apa yang saya ingin tekankan disini adalah...bagaimana MEDICAL CARD personal (yang staff kerajaan carum sendiri)...boleh dijadikan sebagai satu pilihan (alternative)....sekiranya perlu mendapatkan rawatan di Hospital Swasta dengan segera....
Mengenai pekeliling di atas, memang nampak mudah, tapi process sebenar, saya tak rasa ia semudah apa yang dibaca...jadi, tak rugi pun kalau staff gomen ada medical card sendiri. Saya sendiri ramai staff kerajaan yang amik plan takafulink berserta medical card...alasan?...kalau perlukan rawatan di hospital swasta, tak perlu banyak karenah birokrasi dan sebagainya....sebab kita bayar sendiri...
Jadi, kalau masih ada yang beranggapan staff gomen tak perlu langsung medical card, tanggapan itu tak salah, masing2 punya pendapat....dan masing2 punya kepercayaan. Sebabnya, kalau sesuatu musibah menimpa, orang yang ditimpa musibah yang akan menghadapinya....bukan orang lain...
Jadi, fikir2kan lah....kalau bukan sekarang pun, buka minda anda untuk mendalami selok belok pelan medical yang ada di pasaran, untuk kebaikkan anda sekeluarga...

Salam Pembaca sekalian,
Masa memula saya join buat insurance pada tahun 2003, saya tak nampak kepentingan pelan yang komprehensif, i.e yang cover semua area utama risiko kehidupan manusia dari segi KEWANGAN iaitu :
1. Kematian / Lumpuh
2. Sakit Kritikal
3. Kemalangan (Mati atau Lumpuh atau kecacatan anggota)
4. Medical card (Untuk membiayai kos rawatan)
5. Simpanan (untuk kegunaan di hari tua)
Tapi setelah saya berada dalam industri insurance nie, dan saya dah jumpa ramai orang dan client selain dah handle beberapa case tuntutan insurance, baru saya nampak dan faham, kenapa kita perlu perlindungan insurance yang komprehensif.
Seterus, saya teringat cerita TITANIC (kalau anda pernah menonton cerita ini)....and rata2 bila saya tanya prospect atau kenalan saya mengenai cerita ini...pernyataan ini selalu disebut " You jump, I jump..."....tergelak jugak saya dengar. Tapi apa yang saya nak highlight adalah cerita disebalik karamnya sebuah kapal buatan manusia yang canggih (pada zamannya) yang dikatakan tidak akan karam. Tapi, Allah Maha berkuasa.
Ok, ceritanya begini...saya ringkas kan. (kalau nak baca details, boleh tengok kat sini http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RMS_Titanic
Pelayaran dari Southampton ke New York, pada 10 April 1912, dengan muatan 2,223 (anak kapal dan penumpang)...Bahagian penumpang ada 3 class berbeza, 1st, 2nd and 3rd Class. Dalam pelayaran tersebut, kapal ini karam disebabkan terlanggar ketulan ais gergasi (ice berg) dan suhu air pada masa itu ?2 �C. Apa yang saya nak tekankan kat sini adalah....kapal sebesar Titanic cuma ada 20 life boat sahaja. Tak cukup walau pun untuk separuh dari bilangan penumpang dan anak kapal yang berada dalam kapal tersebut. Pun begitu, kapal tersebut menyediakan life jacket untuk orang2 yang lain.
Ok, kita lihat statistic di sini...
Yang terselamat adalah penumpang yang dapat menaiki life boat semasa kapal Titanic tu tenggelam. So, apa kaitannya dengan insurance yang komprehensif nie?..Peratusan mangsa di bahagian 1st class paling sedikit, mungkin disebabkan mereka bayar tiket mahal, so, dapat keutamaan untuk naik life boat. Jadi, pada pandangan saya, insurance komprehensif ini samalah seperti life boat dan manakala yang tidak komprehensif ini adalah seperti life jacket.
Komprehensif : Cover semua area risiko kewangan sekiranya client ditimpa musibah, mana kala yang tidak komprehensif hanya cover sebahagian risiko kewangan sahaja sekiranya ditimpa musibah.
Sebagai contoh, mungkin ramai dikalangan kita ada insurance kemalangan (PA)sahaja...bukan saya cakap insurance kemalangan tersebut tak bagus, cuma tak cukup bagus disebabkan, hanya cover kemalangan, sekiranya kita memerlukan sumber kewangan untuk cover bill rawatan kita disebabkan penyakit, adakah insurance policy yang kita ada (adakah policy kemalangan tersebut boleh cover kos rawatan kita?). Ini salah satu contoh mudah.
Samalah juga casenya tadi, mengenai life boat and life jacket. Bila tenggelamnya kapal Titanic tu, rata2 orang ada life jacket, dan yang berpeluang naik life boat, peluang untuk selamat lebih tinggi berbanding dengan penumpang yang hanya ada life jacket, sebab keadaan masa tu, air -2�C. Yang pakai life jacket hanya boleh tahan kurang dari 15 minit dan mereka terkorban disebabkan oleh hypothermia. Petikan dari sumber wikipedia..."The majority of deaths were caused by hypothermia in the 28 �F (?2 �C) water.."
Jadi, ada life jacket, tapi terkorban disebab situasi pada masa itu memerlukan life boat untuk penumpang mempunyai peluang untuk diselamatkan.

Jadi kesimpulannya, kepada sesiapa yang masih belum ada plan yang komprehensif, cari maklumat mengenai plan yang saya sebutkan tadi. Kepada yang dah ada insurance, tapi tak pasti sama ada insurance mereka adalah komprehensif atau tidak, review balik policy anda dan hubungi agent anda segera.

This is beating print on paper delivered via physical distribution. A bit lower down the list is the option for genuine dont knows: a device or medium unlike any of the others in this list .
While I am not surprised that the iPad (or something like it) is the most favoured choice for our most preferred magazine reading medium for 2020, I would have been very much surprised if you had told me 18 months ago that this tablet-type solution would now seem to be the most promising future vehicle for magazines. The iPad is astonishingly successful, but it is only 7 months old. The way that a magazine app should work on the iPad is still very much up for grabs. The way that users will want to use digital magazines is not a settled issue. There is a lot to be done! There are strategic choices to be made!
Exact Editions is running this poll as travaux preparatoires for a round-table forum that we are hosting for movers and shakers in the magazine/technology space in London, on 1 December. One of the key themes for discussion on that day will be iPads and other tablets, but another theme, the fifth and last that we have listed for the round-table is the social graph. We are pondering the relevance of the social graph to the shifting technical base of the magazine industry as it goes digital: Few magazines/newspapers have really tapped the social graph (yet). Are Facebook and Twitter the real new frontier for digital publications? Although the social graph and the social context of digital magazines is not yet the top item on most digital magazine executives worry list I cannot help but wonder whether the issue of magazine format and delivery is intimately bound up with the question of how magazines can be most easily integrated into the social graph. If the tablet, an iPad or its equivalent, becomes the primary way in which we interact with our closest, but absent, friends and our wider web acquaintance, then the magazine publishers who are now gearing their publications for tabletisation or iPad delivery will have made a prescient move.
The iPad is a surprisingly social device, more so than a notebook computer or a mobile phone. I do not think that it is just the novelty element in the iPad that makes me much more willing to pass mine around -- much more willing to pass it around than to pass around my mobile phone. The momentary, or episodic, lendability of the iPad may have something to do with its touchability which is itself of social value in a small group, and magazine publishers will be reassured to know that this physical lendability is very limited. Sharing a magazine subscription via the same iPad is feasible for mother and daughter, or husband and wife, but not really practical amongst a wider group of friends.
